Presidents Message State News & Events Legislative Update - George Klaetsch 2016-2017 WMBA Board of Directors Installation |
![]() I will be ending my year as WMBA President and looking forward to one more year on your Executive Committee as Immediate Past President. I'm amazed at how fast this year has past and I'm humbled and honored to have been part of a great leadership team at WMBA. Our goal of progress has been met in a number of key areas. Our new Association Management strategy coupled with a better defined Legislative Affairs and Advocacy strategy have been very successful in this first year. We have successfully built a strong foundation for the future of our association. Efforts to give stronger support to our three Chapters began with listening sessions that led to tangible changes to assist our Chapter Boards. We have recently begun a new membership outreach that includes shared revenue with our Chapters and an incentive for individuals who recruit those new members. We have more work to do and we are committed to continuing the progress we've made this year. Thanks to our Chapter Presidents Cheryl Paul, Carrie Holan and Dave Taylor for providing leadership and guidance. Thanks to our Board of Directors, Chapter Boards, Committee Chairs, and Committee Members for many hours of work to deliver high-quality education, networking and social opportunities............I'm amazed at the number of quality events delivered in just one year at all levels of our association. On June 16th we will host the Annual Installation event at the Milwaukee Marriott West. We will welcome the new Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions and install our new Directors and our Officers. New WMBA President Mike Kellman will share some thoughts as he embarks on his new journey. I have been extremely fortunate to have a very active and supportive Executive Committee and I thank Mike Kellman, Joe Doyle and Jan Brezina for all they have done and will continue to do. Lastly, I want to thank all of you......our entire WMBA membership. This Association of Mortgage Professionals exists because you care deeply about this industry we all cherish. I have enjoyed every moment at every meeting and event getting to know all of you a little better. My takeaways are one thousand times more than what I've put in. Here's the challenge I see ahead and the last thought I'll share in this newsletter............Be protective of this great industry !! We only need to go back to 2007 to remember how difficult this journey has been. Your efforts since those dark days have shed a new light on the future of our industry. We have survived the downturn and can now look forward to better days ahead. Although we know there will be new challenges and opportunities ahead, we have shown time and time again that by working together, there is much we can achieve to improve our industry. Take pride in what you do.......many people are counting on us.

House Passes the SAFE Transitional Licensing ActOn Monday, May 23rd, the House passed H.R. 2121, the SAFE Transitional Licensing Act, by a unanimous voice vote. One of MBA’s top priorities, the legislation would make it easier for mortgage loan originators to switch jobs by allowing registered MLOs to obtain temporary licenses to originate. During the lead-up to the final vote, nearly 3,000 Mortgage Action Alliance members contacted their representatives to encourage them to vote for the bill, and MBA sent letters to all House members urging support. On the heels of the resounding House vote, the bill enjoys significant momentum as MBA pivots to urging the Senate to take up this important piece of legislation.
